If you are like my wife and me you are visiting this web site because you really,really really love your dog or dogs. You may have heard that it would be best for you to feed your dogs raw foods. Well that is how we got involved with the  raw food diet for our dogs.

We have always had dogs and our children now grown and starting families of their own wouldn’t know what life without a dog is like. We now have five dogs from our retired racing Greyhound, Juliet  rescued  from the track to our littlest one Bria a Papillion my wife flew from New Jersey to Florida to rescue. That ” I’m in charge here now”  tea cup Pap has come a long way since her flight back with my wife.  I know, I know tell me about it but this is who we are.  So you can probably guess that for our dogs we have always aimed for optimum wellness ! I’m sure you want what’s best for your dog  too. That is why you are here. Is the raw dog food diet a good idea ? We think so and that is largely what we are about here. Meet some of our dog. Their vote for raw food eating is unanimous.

Long ago we decided to go with the theory that the well planned and well chosen diet means optimum health for our dogs. We want our  animals who on occasion have come to us after a life of less than attentive care to have every chance to enjoy a body at the peak of their genetic perfection.

Our Greyhound Juliet was fed well when she was a racer but her health went down hill when she was retired. We rescued her at age four and got her on a raw food diet and within weeks she was fit as a fiddle. Now at nine I bet she could repeat as the race winner she once was. By the way these dogs are not treated well at all after they have been retired as racers. They are wonderful with easy going temperaments and sweetness please consider a rescue they are a cuddly dog in a big package. Our Julie sleeps in a ball like position you wouldn’t believe how “small” she can get.

Romeo our only boy, a Sheltie. He suffered from parvo as a pup Rosanne lovingly and skillfully nursed him back to health with a round a clock vigil back then that seemed to last forever. The good news he made it and what a dog. he stays strong and healthy on a raw dog food diet. His relationship with Rosanne is close as close can be. He is now a real man of the house strong and raw food diet healthy at age 11 he still goes strong and our girl dogs idolize him.

Lady our American Eskimo defies the odds a rescue we made 12 years ago. She was a mess but now she defies the odds at 19 and she still has a zest for life. She is on a few medications and sometimes she has that don’t bother me now attitude common to her breed. She is happy to go raw and what a beauty she is.

Lady Minerva or Miss Minnie as we call her a Terrier mix and a rescue as a pup just passed at the ripe old age of 21. Our vet used to call her superdog. She was fit as fiddle into her senior years and even after she was sight challenged would still mix it up with our other dogs. This was a terrier with plenty of heart even for  that tough breed.

Our Shih Tzu Ginger. We got this little girl when a niece had to move for graduate studies and wasn’t allowed to have a dog in her new apartment. With us for a year now she has enthusiastically embraced the raw food diet.

Chloe who broke our hearts. Paps are given to problems with their patellas (knee caps). At age 6 we had to get her an operation  to repair this and she never recovered. She had a reaction to the general anesthesia. It took us a long time to get over her loss. Rosanne and I drove on a hard snowing day from New jersey to Boston to get her as a 6 week old puppy . We were never sorry we made the trip. She was daddy’s little girl and could wrap me around her paw.

We want these wonderful animals to be supremely healthy and to have long lives. Our joy is in well adjusted and trouble free companions. We want active dogs to perform to the maximum of their natural potential. We want our sick pets to become well quickly, and our aged pets to have the energy and joy of life that puppies have. We want to have extraordinary lives for ourselves and making sure our pets have extraordinary lives just follows. This means our pets should be healthy, happy, active, bright, alert and free of problems and to stay that way for all their very long lives.

What you and I have in common is our love of dogs. I’m sure that you have come to know a great deal over time about what is and isn’t good for your dogs. I know we have. In fact we have made a labor of love out of it. The it being our dog’s happy healthy living and I don’t have to tell you what we get out of it. Every true dog lover knows the specialness of having a dog in your life.

Ok so why this raw food diet for dogs web site. The answer is simple and I will not pull punches here.  I am concerned with the poor quality of the commercial pet food that is being sold by even by the best pet food suppliers. I believe that just as with us “you are what you eat” applies. Our dog’s are what they eat. There are of course  many other issues that will be part of this ongoing discussion or blog. Just as there are many other issues that will have impact on your dog’s overall health and happiness. Mainly however we will be making a case for why we decided to become advocates for a raw food diet.

Some of the other issues we will discuss in upcoming articles will relate to supplementation, dog teeth health,wound care, a detoxing protocol for your dog, the challenge of parasites, good and bad bacteria and many other areas of interest to the dog lover determined like I am to give your pets the best we can.

The pet food recalls that have  gotten so much press lately and always it seems anymore are just the tip of the iceberg. As I have stated if you are wondering if I am condemning most commercial pet food suppliers and the products they sell. The short and resounding answer is yes. I think the quality of the products they sell us to feed our pets is responsible for much of what ails our beloved animals.

A human grade dog food  in effect is what we offer our pets. One that is not subject to the whims of profit hungry poorly regulated pet food industry.
